BRANDON, FL – Just days after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced a crackdown on drinking while operating a boat, the sheriff’s marine unit has arrested one of its own.
Around 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1, the marine unit arrested Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputy Alexander Craver, 28, for operating a boat under the influence.
Craver began working for sheriff’s office in 2012 as a community service officer in detention services and then later in the Communications Center.
In December, he became a patrol deputy assigned to District II. Craver has no other disciplinary history.
Per standard operating procedure, he was suspended without pay pending an internal investigation.
The arrest took place during the sheriff’s office Operation Dry Water, an annual campaign focuses on the detection and arrest of people who operate a boat while drinking. (See related story).
"We are 100 percent committed to doing whatever it takes to keep our roadways and waterways safe from impaired operators, especially during a holiday season," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Unfortunately, one of our own was arrested."
